The Wish Museum
The closed down Checkerbox deli on Lorain avenue was turned into a collaborative public art installation- The Wish Museum, a space equipped with variety of materials for passerby’s, community members and students to explore the concept of a wish and to express their own wishes. A sign in the front and mailbox encouraged public participation and the group collected these wished to hang on the Wishing Wall. All materials were found, recycled and or donated with the help of Building Bridges. The group (of 13 high-school students and two artists) made walls out of string, inspired by the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, to hang wishes on, the ceiling was covered with sowed and recycled fabric. Members of the group built a rock mountain, made pillows, planted plants and painted the walls. Wishes range from wishing for a new gold fish, to wishing for the people of Cleveland to be able to keep their homes.
